Giving Tuesday Now - May 5, 2020
The mission of Fisher House has always been to connect families during difficult times. We have adapted how we carry out this mission, but we will always remain steadfast.
Some Fisher Houses are now welcoming healthcare workers -
RN Allison Conlon is on the front line of this pandemic working in the COVID MICU at the VA Boston Healthcare System. She is staying at Fisher House Boston to keep her two-year-old safe at home. This is one of many Fisher Houses that has been converted to give healthcare workers a place to stay during these unprecedented times.
“I feel so grateful and so fortunate to have a room here. This has been one of the most difficult experiences, but living here at the Fisher House has made it that much easier.”
Because many families cannot visit their loved ones in the hospital, Fisher House Foundation is connecting them virtually through a new program, “A Family’s Love.” This program is currently in the process of providing Facebook Portal TVs to 76 VA facilities.
Locally, Fisher House Michigan is:
Providing items to stock the VA Ann Arbor Fisher House, in anticipation of the arrival of families in the coming months
Providing a weekly hot meal to front line medical professionals at VA Detroit and a gratis coffee station for VA Ann Arbor
Enabling the Fisher House program to continue for families of Veterans in palliative care, and for accompanied Veterans who are travelling to VA Ann Arbor for critical outpatient procedures
