Warren F. Boos

Warren Franklin Boos, 88, of Maple City and Orchard Lake, Michigan passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at his beloved cottage on Glen Lake.

Warren was born in Detroit, MI on July 14,1934 to George and Ethel (Nelson) Boos. He married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Beverly Lou Barrett, on August 20, 1955. They recently celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary.

Warren’s life will be forever cherished by his loving wife, Beverly; three children: Donald (Janet) Boos, Sally-Jo (Rusty) Trapp, Douglas (Judy) Boos; seven grandchildren: Zachary (Kristin) Boos, Brittany (Patrick) McMahon, Logan, LeeAnne, and Lauren Trapp, Davis and Danielle Boos; and three great grandchildren: Eleanor and George McMahon, and Annabel Boos. Along with his special nephew and his wife: David and Diane Burton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ethel Boos, and his brother, Richard Boos.

Warren graduated from Redford High School and Michigan State University, where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He was a passionate and lifelong Spartan fan. Warren and Bev were part of a special “Potluck” group of Michigan State alums and Phi Delts who celebrated all that life had to offer and remained friends forever.

He was an army reservist during the Korean War.

Warren spent a successful career as a Senior VP/Investment Analyst for Paine Webber/UBS, but more significantly he passed down his financial knowledge to friends and family, and especially his beloved grandchildren. He begrudgingly retired at the age of eighty but continued to be a wise counselor to all who knew him.

For many years, Warren was a valued investment advisor and board member at Alma College.

Papa was a constant presence in the life of all of his grandchildren. His family meant the world to him. In their earlier years he and Nana were always planning for the annual cousins’ week in Orchard Lake and Delray Beach or some other fun-filled adventure. When the four eldest grandkids were eight-ten years, Papa left Nana at home and took them on a whirlwind sightseeing trip to NYC and introduced them to Wall Street. At a very young age, Papa arranged for the grandkids to attend a private “Finance 101” class with his Associate KT. To this day, Papa’s wisdom in all things financial has made a lasting impression on his loved ones. As his grandchildren grew older he shared in their successes and was always a presence in their lives.

Warren and Bev were avid snow skiers (starting in the early days of Boyne Mtn. and Aspen) who taught their children to ski at a very young age on the hills of northern Michigan. Their passion for skiing instilled a great love of the sport to their future generations.

Later in life, Warren and Bev retired to Delray Beach, FL and Leelanau County where they enjoyed their time on the water with family and a new group of active friends. They especially enjoyed the time spent with the Benzie Bike Club and The Burdickville Yacht Club (aka coffee group) where Warren was the founding Commodore.

Warren had a presence that was larger than life. He enjoyed life to the fullest and treasured his family and many friends.

His favorite song, which he liked to belt out in his booming voice, was Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World” and that is how he lived his life.

He was a passionate philanthropist, creating his own foundation and donating to many many organizations, causes and people in need. Before you could say a word, Warren would get involved and lend support in any way he could.

A recent message from a BYC friend: “What a gift Warren gave all who met him; his friendship and the example to live every day to the fullest. To love and cherish friendships, do good work and give back.”
